the direction is pretty clear, just need to know what works and what doesn't. I do think the easiest way to plan adding color to the icon systems is to work in gray scale. This is a very simple, effective system. But I won't know which of these are gonna be in the group till later. I'm pretty sure that one of the most interesting routes could potentially be using a trapezoid background shape in some of the oddly shaped icons and a rectangle for the bilateral ones.

  1. I agree that the trapezoid background is the most visually pleasing. Explore the full formal potential of the trapezoids as it applies to all your icons. What possible shape variations or slight alterations work best with the unique characteristics of each icon? Which can provide some visual variety, while also produce a cohesive motif within your entire system?
